Beautiful Philip Island, only a scenic 90 minutes from Melbourne and home to the world’s smallest penguins, offers a truly unique wildlife experience.
Our tour starts traveling southbound through Melbourne’s glamorous bayside suburbs before heading inland to a historic dairy farming property where we savor a real Australian afternoon tea of scones jam and cream, sampling farm fresh local produce, before a chance to feed and pat some of Australia’s native animals like kangaroos, wombats and more. Just don’t forget your camera!
More iconic wildlife awaits on Phillip Island where we get face to face with the cuddly koalas of the Koala Conservation Centre before walking off our afternoon treats with a refreshing stroll through the regions ancient Eucalypt forests.
At the Nobbies, we combine sea air and stunning scenery – and of course more exercise. We take a healthy coastal walk along the breathtaking Southern Ocean with views to the outcrop of Seal Rocks, home to colonies of native fur seals and unique shearwater birds.
With evening drawing in, we head to the pretty fishing town of Cowes where we might join the locals for a dinner of freshly cooked seafood or classic Australian fish and chips, eaten picnic-style gazing out to sea or strolling along the historic Cowes pier.
At dusk, the incredible ancient ritual of the little penguins begins. We watch the adorable penguins emerge from the ocean, gather in groups on the beach and cross the sand to reach the sand dune burrows for a well-deserved rest!
